Build comfort before the camera starts

Nobody expects you to walk in with a plan. Hands are where most people get stuck. (Seriously, nobody knows what to do with their hands.) Karina will show you exactly where to put them so they look relaxed instead of awkward. Direction makes posing feel more natural because you get to stay in the moment while someone else keeps an eye on the details.

Let movement loosen things up

Hold any pose long enough, and you’ll start feeling weird about it. That’s just being human. Moving a little gives you something to focus on besides the camera, and your face relaxes right along with it.

Karina might have you turn slowly toward her or run a hand through your hair, and she’ll keep shooting the whole time. Some of the best photos end up being the ones taken between poses, when you weren’t trying so hard.

Let light work with the pose

Light does a lot of the heavy lifting in a photo, often before you even notice the pose. Soft light feels calm and quiet. Shadows add depth and a little drama.

Since lighting can shape mood and dimension, Karina will usually adjust how you’re angled toward the light instead of changing your whole pose. Something as small as tipping your chin can change the entire feel of a shot.
